Where my MC ninjas at? Apparently Ski Beatz 24 Karate School project will be open for business on the 7th September. Time to go and dust off my white belt.

Some doubted Cameron’s commitment to the urban game, questioning the sincerity of his ‘hood a hoodie’ campaign but the new PM has upped-the-ante on the haterz by presenting President Obama with a piece of art by typo-graffer extraordinaire (and re-formed illegal dauber with previous) Ben Eine.
Political tittle-tattle aside, having interviewed Eine for issue 02 we can safely say that this recongition is more than deserved. Not only is Eine a top bloke to share a pot of tea with but he is a multi-talented artist. His work on prints released via Nelly Duff, Urban Angel, and before that his time as a printer at Picturesonwalls, confirms that he’s a black belt in the complex art of screenprinting, while his street creations appeal to the public and are often more subtle than you may think.
Still the thought of us and Sam Cam having the same taste in art…scary.
The work of UK street-artist Cept always brings a smile to the face. Often appropriating familiar images of superheros and adopting a pop-art style, his piece of street work that samples the lyrics to Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart has just been released as a print entitled Again and Again (OG image right, print left). OMG as one of Litchenstein’s characters would undoubtedly have exclaimed.
Bonafide sent Prof C Renwick out-and-about to Lovebox this weekend and after a few false starts he eventually landed an interview with the one and only Grandmaster Flash.
We were also invited down to cover the work of Create the agency responsible for cultivating the arts and the creative sides of the five boroughs that will host the 2012 Olympics. The Create10 festival is currently up-and-running with the Young London: Into Music strand showcasing their skills during Friday at Lovebox, as well as Indig02 and Theatre Royal Stratford East. Acts featured included UD Vocal Collective directed by Matthew ‘Excalibah’ Xia, Shola Ama, novelty act but still seriously skilled MC Mr B Gentleman Rhymer, Kele le Roc, Mz Bratt and Mikill Pane – check out this hugely innovative promo for the Re:Definition 2010 gig.
Wednesday night saw Soho’s primo bike store Tokyo Fixed Gear play host to none other than Bonafide collaborator Emilski’s debut show – regulars here will recall the London artist’s fresh-to-def Bonafide X Nike Tied Together tee. The night – in conjunction with Topsafe, the crew who launched the first hardback homage to London graffiti AKA Crack ‘n’ Shine – showcased a number of hand-painted signs amid all the bird bones and beer, pitting some of London’s dirtier dens of fried chicken inequity against each other to amusing effect. The whole affair definitely got Bonafide thinking about a little Junior Spesh on the way back to the bits, but we settled for another wing and some exercise over at Deviation. The signs will hang for the next week, along with some three-colour screen printed tees (as well as the original print) so hot you’d think they just came out the fryer. Hit up Topsafe for more info. Bonafide is produced by people who care. It’s crafted outside of our 9-5s as something that we’d like to read and know there are a loads of people out there who like it too. Our aim is simple; provide original coverage on where hip-hop has been, is at and where it’s heading. For issue 03 DaM FunK and co. are here to set our musical, artistic and fashion frequencies to 2010 and beyond.
For this issue we some how managed to convince one of our favourite, and modern music’s most imaginative art directors to design our front cover. And Jeff Jank (Stones Throw records) certainly comes up with the goods in this comic book-inspired cut-up of a Strong Arm Steady/Planet Asia/J Rocc image – dope to the power of a gazillion. …Read More.

WESTWOOOOOD! The big dog will be spinning a ‘Golden Age’ set of late 80s to mid 90s bangers at Fabric next Friday, celebrating The Doctors Orders 5th birthday bash. 5 years is nothing short of a lifetime in the claustrophobic world of clubland so props must go to the good doctor!
Alongside Tim Westwood will be an Extended Players 6 deck set, featuring Shortee Blitz, DJ MK & Harry Love, the birthday boy himself, Spin Doctor and a live performance by Stone Throw’s resident rugged MC, Guilty Simpson.
Fresh from the natty OJ Simpson album, featuring exclusive production by Madlib, Guilty Simpson is one of the few contemporary rappers who still brings the ruckus, unshamedly gangsta with one hell of a live show, and that’s why we dig him.
We have 3 pairs of tickets to the night (Friday 23rd July) and 3 copies of the OJ Simpson album up for grabs. Just email in telling us your favourite medicine, mailto:mailbox@bonafidezine.com
“No player is bigger than the team”, is a well worn footballing cliché that rings poignantly true at the business end of this World Cup and one that could easily apply to music genres, but in the case of dubstep few have been able to match the levels of prolificness and creativity of Kode9. The producer, DJ, lecturer and author has released a slew of seminal releases through the Hyperdub label he founded, while nurturing talents and releasing music by the likes of Joker, Zomby and Burial. …Read More.
Way back in Bonafide 02 we did a feature on one of our favourite producer mans Kidkanevil. It’s been a while but if we could still be arsed to use MySpace, he would be in our top friends for sure. And I’m talking top 8 shit, before it turned jokes. Consistently dope and consistently unpredictable, one of the most genuine and original producers in the UK today. If you haven’t heard his latest album Basho Basho then erm, you really need to. …Read More.
