VAST AIRE & KOUNT FIF X BONAFIDE BEATS #17

Bonafide Beats #17 see’s Kount Fif steal in behind the decks and put together a calling card for Vaste Aire’s latest series of street vignettes – Ox 2010 – A Street Odyssey.

Like a slap from the back of one of the man’s large hands, the mix begins with a shudder before going into the chest thumping Nomad. Nomad showcases Vaste Aires unique style that both manages to be both dense and playful and pick inspiration from everything from urban folklore to pop culture to class A induced pyschedlica through to literate bravado “Puff the magic dragon/As I chase the Phoenix and build with Aladdin/I dreamed of a Genie and she gave me what I want/But first she had to roll my blunt”.

Vaste Aire is one of my favourite MCs, his vocals have scorched the likes of the anthemic Look Mum No Hands, the Cold Vein – in my opinion an LP that is the very essence of hip-hop – the mythical Spearboxxx/The Ox Below and the House busting Duece’s Wild. Ox 2010: A Street Odyssey see’s a Nomad of the NYC streets heading off to another place but it’s still got his magic touch all over it.
