REVIEW: NOTTZ – YOU NEED THIS MUSIC
Nottz
You Need This Music
Raw Koncept
Featuring appearances from the likes of Asher Roth, Travis Barker, Little Brother, Black Milk, Dwele, Joell Ortiz, Snoop Dogg, Mayer Hawthorne and more, this is the debut album from the Virginia producer / rapper Nottz. This album has Nottz’s trademark hard beats to bang your head to aplenty. This release should appeal to fans of Nottz’s other work along with that of Hi Tek, 9th Wonder, etc.
This album in my opinion suffers from the ‘Producer album’ syndrome, where sometimes there are (arguably) too many guests and the lack of a unified (lyrical) vision fails to create a complete work. It is rock influenced in places and Nottz shows himself to be a rapper of skill, but (beats aside) this release sounds more like a compilation to me.
