MIKE-L X BONAFIDE BEATS #10
Fresh off the back of his long awaited Long Player, First Word Record’s resident crate digger and veteran beat maker Mike-L cooks up an exclusive mix for Bonafide.
Mike-L is one of the UK’s leading turntablists and has graced no less than 6 DMC finals with his innovative scratch routines. But this year is all about his album On a Columbo tip. His use of heavy breakbeats and infectious funk hooks have drawn comparisons with the likes of Cut Chemist, Madlib and RJD2. While the production styles may be similar, the sound is genuinely unique and Mike’s love and appreciation for the tradition of crate digging and the art of beat making shines through in his atmospheric soundscapes.
Dropping the skills for Bonafide Beats #10, Mike-L cuts up a blend of rare funk, breakbeats, hip-hop and dub-step with his own work thrown into the mix for one of my personal favourite Bonafide Beats to date.
