JON PHONICS X BONAFIDE BEATS #14
We asked rising UK talent Jon Phonics to contribute a themed mix to our Bonafide Beats series and he came back with something he called Drippin Wet. Either Jon was describing the effect the sounds would have on listeners’ ear wax (doubtful) or he was being down right rude (probable).
Don’t be fooled, this mix is much more than a cheeky drunken snog and fumble in the bike sheds with the local hottie. From an opening high of slick hip-hop anthems it slips through into nu-soul vocals and evocative, late night slinky beats and polished electronica. In our opinion this is best described as the aural equivilent of a seductive kiss on the back of a velvet neck.
Jon’s just released a superb new limited ed. instrumental 7″ head nodding goodness wrapped up in a screen-printed sleeve entitled Bruck Out/The One. For more info on the man called Phonics check out our interview with him here or purchase a copy of our UK Special (Bonafide issue 04 available in our own electronic corner shop) which features an exclusive indepth piece with the YNR clan.
