Bonafide issue 04 cover

As usual we’ve raised the stakes and aimed to put out something that you won’t find anywhere else. A UK themed issue from the red and blue colour scheme to the fashion imagery through to the innovative musicians and artists we’ve spoken to, issue 04 celebrates our very own local originators.

Peep the roll call of exclusives. On the music tip we’ve got exclusive features with the bedrock of UK hip-hop. From the grey High Plains of Huddersfield, Jehst and the YNR crew, cover star Klashnekoff reloading for his next saga, the cerebral thoughts of Ty, electronic pioneers Coldcut/Ninja Tune and Daddy Skitz. Also in the mix is the un-definable Jamie Lidell, floating vocals from Fatima, the relentless underground warrior Cappo and Radio 1xtra DJs Benji B, Mista Jam and DJ Target.

On the visual side of things we chat to street artist agent provocateur D*Face, visual storyteller Slinkachu, dope designers Oscar and Ewan, and include illustrations by some of the UK’s finest pencil wielding talent.

EINE GREATEST EXHIBITION @ WHITE WALLS GALLERY, SAN FRANCISCO

Ben-Eine-graffiti-street-art-White-Walls

As Ben Eine’s star keeps rising the scale of his street-art seems to keep on getting bigger. Off the back of last year’s deserved surge in interest in his work (in part due to the PMs wife although his back catalogue is surely a more powerful calling card for his artistic talents) he is currently setting up shop at the White Walls Gallery in San Francisco, USA. Check out their blog for new street work and the shop for the pieces from his Greatest show that are destined for home-owners/gallery walls.

JOSE PARLA – WALLS, DIARIES AND PAINTINGS EXHIBITION @ BRYCE WOLKOWITZ

Jose Parla Walls Diaries and Paintings

jose-parla-walls-diaries-and-paintings image 2

Jose Parla continues to channel graffiti, the spirit of Pollock and Twombly, and combine it with his own personal experiences and unique style to bring work into the world of fine art that in years to come could see him referred to an ‘old-school master’. An expert exponent of hand-styles and innovative user of mixed media, Parla’s new show Walls, Diaries, and Paintings features new paintings chronicling his experiences of urban life and the cities concrete culture.

The exhibition runs from March to April at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, NYC, and for those that can’t make it (including myself!) there is an accompanying monograph available here. As the promo shots indicate Parla is a unique talent and, in terms of being able to understand, reflect and express the rhythms and spaces of urban life, he is making a sustained play to be this era’s Mondrain.

SEATING CAPACITY

It’s no secret that Dutch graffic (sic.) designer Sander van Heukelom has long been a proponent of graffiti and graffiti culture. His design of a giant aerosol fat cap chair, having originally been presented as part of an exhibition some 2 years ago, is now available to buy direct. If you’re into this kinda ish then may we suggest you peep the original site’s samples page too for some pretty colours. There’s also a video detailing the manufacturing process.

ASTROPHONICA X EMILSKI VINYL GOODNESS

Charlie Fracture – the dude responsible for our helladope Milk ‘n’ Anchovies mixtape has made an awesome clip detailing the production of his new LE sleeves for a limited run of his new release on co-owned Astrophonica records – created by none other than Bonafide collaborator Emilski, the guy responsible for servin’ up the red hot Nike x Bonafide tee. Hot cakes ain’t got nuthin’ on these… PS peep the single, The Limit, currently doing the rounds courtesy of Zero T’s FabricLive mix.

TOPSAFE PRESENTS: CHICKENBEEF BY EMILSKI AT TOKYO FIXED GEAR

Wednesday night saw Soho’s primo bike store Tokyo Fixed Gear play host to none other than Bonafide collaborator Emilski’s debut show – regulars here will recall the London artist’s fresh-to-def Bonafide X Nike Tied Together tee. The night – in conjunction with Topsafe, the crew who launched the first hardback homage to London graffiti AKA Crack ‘n’ Shine – showcased a number of hand-painted signs amid all the bird bones and beer, pitting some of London’s dirtier dens of fried chicken inequity against each other to amusing effect. The whole affair definitely got Bonafide thinking about a little Junior Spesh on the way back to the bits, but we settled for another wing and some exercise over at Deviation. The signs will hang for the next week, along with some three-colour screen printed tees (as well as the original print) so hot you’d think they just came out the fryer. Hit up Topsafe for more info.  JW

remed

RQM got in touch with the dope on his new project/EP, Colours Fade, that he has produced with street-artist Remed. Remed has provided an illustration that packages a limited run of 7inches and the image portrays the hedonistic tale that the wax tells. Nice idea, super nice execution. Available to all Berlin headz here.
