BEAMS ADVERTISING

Tres Bien Shop Beams

Following the Stussy thread and riding the wave of the surf, love this piece of advertising for Japanese clothing brand Beams. As befitting a brand that doffs a cap to Americana, this piece of artwork has a proper Pacific ocean vibe – clear skies and a clear blue ocean – and appropriates (rather than bites) American artist Ed Ruscha’s style very nicely (I’m presuming he wasn’t commissioned by the label to paint it himself).

STUSSY MAKE BEATS T-SHIRTS

Stussy Make Beats t-shirt

Love this range of t-shirts released by Stussy in conjunction with the Make Beats competition they’re currently running. Combining a really simple set of slogan’s with Stussy’s iconic typography equals a win in my book.

From it’s birth in the sea of surf culture to it’s adoption by streetwear enthusiasts to it’s present guise, Stussy have an approach that has been much admired and copied but rarely bettered. It’s enduring appeal is summed up by these ‘videos’(in the truest sense of the world) filmed in the 80s that demonstrates that Stussy was not just about threads but a way of life (Livin’ Extra Large). Shawn Stussy might have stepped down from the label that he gave his name to but he’s still going strong with his new S Double label and blog.

SNEAKY BUSINESS

Sneakybiz

We love our kicks here at Bonafide, we also love human beings too. If you’re against the exploitation of footwear workers by sneaker companies then make yourself heard. Sneaky Business is a recent campaign set up by Oxfam Australia, a virtual march (don’t worry, you don’t have to leave your seat) that begins in Australia, travels through factories in Southeast Asia, China, and Central America and will finish in the USA.

To participate in the march, supporters can upload an image of their sneakers (optional) and choose a message to send to footwear brands in support of workers’ rights. The messages will be collated and delivered to various footwear brands once the march reaches its final destination.

Sportswear companies have taken small steps in the right direction but there is still a long way to go, please lend your voice to this worthy cause by going to www.sneakybiz.org and spread the word!

THE HOUSE OF BILLIAM

House of Billiam

Having been on the lookout for a new hoodie I was quite taken by the bespoke service offered by House of Billiam. A unique clothing label, House of Billiam is all about taking best elements of two seemingly opposite fashion tribes – contemporary streetwear and traditional British tailoring.

Offering a choice of staple products – hoodies and varsity jackets – the label takes inspiration from the great tailoring houses, encouraging the customer to take an active part of the making of the item they are purchasing. Instead of a mere transaction based experience with you handing over the readies for something pre-made, you get to choose the outer and inner fabric for the garment from a selection of high quality material. You then supply measurements to House of Billiam, who then do their bit, turning the brief into one-off, hand-crafted piece of kit. The results are pretty special – subtle grey tweed hoodies with colourful paisley inners, varsity jackets with contrasting leather sleeves or a snug and smart one colour varsity, with a subtle pinstripe inner. Might just start saving up for my own creation.

AIRS N GRACES

Ahhh the British summer. An idyllic institution brimming with strawberries & cream, Al Fresco living, Wimbledon and streets littered with happy smiley people getting their Pimms O’clock on. Well, that was the case until the weather turned shit and we’ve been left not knowing if it’s gonna be hot or cold, wet or sunny. Ho hum, as I said, it’s an institution and a notoriously predictably unpredictable one at that. Now I’ve got the weather out the way I shall commence by furnishing you with some of the latest streetwear drops to hopefully bring a little sunshine back into your lives. …Read More.

FERGADELIC X STUSSY T-SHIRTS VIDEO PROMO

Stussy – Fergadelic from Stussy on Vimeo.

Fantastic little profile of illustrator/artist/designer Fergadelic (also known more prosaically as Fergus Purcell). Over the years Fergadelic’s designs have illuminated the threads of Silas and Tonite and, in terms of streetwear aesthetics is a bit of a legend. Now back in the fold, Fergadelic has collaborated with STUSSY on a series of t-shirts for their 2011 summer collection. Good stuff.
