MATT HELDERS AND GOLDIE LAUNCH COLLECTIONS WITH SUPREMEBEING @ URBANOUTFITTERS

Matt Helders and Goldie launch Supreme clothing collection

“I bet you look good on the dance floor”. I somehow think that Matt Helders would never have thought, when he was working on Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I Not, that down the line that he would end up dressing people on the dance floor. Alongside Metalheadz’ Goldie, he is releasing a capsule collection, informed by musical culture, for British label Supremebeing.

To kick off the look, Supremebeing will be holding a launch party at Urban Outfitters, Oxford Street, on 8th September from 6pm to 8pm. Expect goodie bags and DJs bringing the noise.

NICE WHEELS #03

With the World Cup now over the big boys can focus their efforts on Retro re-releases and new grails instead of million pound advertising campaigns on players who had tournaments to forget.

Adidas have thrown up another fruity range from fashion designer Jeremy Scott. Here we see the Adidas Forum in many incarnations some eye catching (the license plate blue’s) and some downright terrifying (the Teddy Bear Highs look like something Gary Glitter dreamed up).

NIKE (RED) X TIED TOGETHER X BONAFIDE

Bonafide is proud to have been selected alongside 23 other creatives to represent London for the Nike (RED) TIED TOGETHER campaign, a noble initiative to raise awareness and support for fighting AIDS in Africa. Here’s the low-down;

TIED TOGETHER is an epic journey in response to a global health crisis. Five cities. 120 hours of racing. 24 hour relays. …Read More.

SUBURBAN BLISS CLOSES

Having only become aware of Suburban Bliss earlier last year, I was disappointed to read that the label has now closed after 10 years producing clothing best described as original and fresh. Boasting subject matter than explored musical icons, handwritten typography and British folklore, not only was the artwork tip-top but the production processes that involved hand printing in London and dis-charged, mainly water-based inks made this eco-friendly brand way ahead of the game.

Peep the archive, grab a piece of history and join us in lamenting the closure of an independent UK clothing label. As a previous season’s Suburban Bliss slogan went “Suburban Bliss heavier than a death in the family.”

SELECTOR CUSHIONS

Typo Graphical is an excellent place to bookmark. It provides an insight into the contemporary international scene (hell they featured us recently) and is run by the multi-talented John Hall; John wrote for Mass Appeal back-in-the-day and divides his time between contributing for crack Oz mag T-World, developing Typo Graphical and growing his reggae influenced lifestyle brand Selector. Featured are the latest set of Selector cushions. Thinking about it I can’t think of a more fitting item to be inspired by Jamaica’s laid back sounds.

DOPE MONKEY BUSINESS

chimp_2

Not visited the 2K by Gingham  store for a while so it was good to see that the site has had a facelift and boiled down the content (as a the marketing bods would say). The site is all the better for it and I reckon 2K remain in the premier league of t-shirt design. One of my personal favourite’s is still available too. Designed by Mario Guay this is a rock-and-roll design and a classic in the flesh.

Chimps and t-shirts have history of course – A Bathing Ape/Very Ape, SSUR, Paul Frank, X-Large, Ben Davis and countless imitators. Simian design was done to death during the 90s and 00s so it’s good to see that there is fresh life in the old monkey yet!

NICE WHEELS #02

With the snow hopefully gone for another year we can look to throw out the thermals and winter boots and get on with some new kicks for 2010. One of the most inspired releases in some time sees Adidas resume its Star Wars project with a whole bunch of new footwear and apparel collaborations. The most interesting are the classic white and black Stormtrooper Superstars as well as the Darth Vader version of the classic shoe. If rocking the darkside isn’t your thing then there are other personalised efforts for Yoda, Skywalker and the gold bikini’d Princess Leia. Other styles include kicks inspired by specific scenes as well as the Death Star. Peep the vid below. …Read More.

NOISE LAB LAUNCHES IN MANCHESTER

noise

Guerilla Pop-Up Store, Noise Lab, flings open its doors this January. Located in Manchester city centre, the lab deviates from the usual pop-up store concept (which basically equates to stealth branding using DIY tools) in that it’s built to showcase artistic talents and hopefully direct some cash into their back pockets. A good thing in this rather grey financial climate.

Backed by the arts charity Noise Festival, the local council and a number of other philanthropic partners, Noise Lab is billed a ‘living magazine’ with each month a ‘Guest Editor’ curating content, events, gigs, workshops and much more. Manchester street artist Doodlebug is the first Editor and has plucked a unknown art headz of the street to present their work alongside their work and talent next to recognised and established names such as Mr Scruff, Pete Fowler  Monsterism and Mark Wigan. It looks ‘monster’, as Eric Hall used to say and well worth checking out.

Bonafide will be representing at Noise Lab with copies of the magazine available to fondle before purchase. Hopefully we’ll also be getting involved in putting on a special event or two. Watch this space.
