THE BOOMCASE BY MR SIMO

The Boom Case speakers Mr Simo

Christmas has just gone but I’m already jotting things like the above onto next year’s list.

Conceived and handcrafted by Mr Simo and his handpicked team, each BoomCase welds a suitcase (preferably weathered, aged with a hint of retro) with speakers that go BOOM! Taking three weeks to build to customised options (solar charger or TV screen anyone?) they can run on either run on a battery or be plugged in, and work with an iPod/iPad/iPhone or anything else with a headphone plug.

The BoomCase, guaranteed to elevate the standard weekly team meeting into something more palatable.

INTRODUCING FEAL MOR CLOTHING

Feal Mor hoodie

“I started Feal Mor because I wanted to make a few sweaters and pea coats that existed only in my head.”

Good job JP Plunier did because Feal Mor make some high-quality kit. Checkout the shop for a mixture of Feal Mor produce, one-off vintage military pieces and a few interesting odds and ends. A curated shopping experience. As they say in the fashion press.

NEW ERA INTRODUCING EXHIBITION 04-05 NOVEMBER AT SHOREDITCH UNDERGROUND

New Era Introducing exhibition

New Era have just announced the winner of their New Era Introducing competition. Tasked with the brief to re-imagine the standard 59FIFTY, entries for this competition turned the idea of a humble hat on its head. Notable contributions include a wooden fronted cap (on-trend folky, though you’d need some Ronseal to make it work in wet climes) and a cap riffing the image from The Smiths Meat is Murder LP. And of course the winners piece, an intricate and delicate piece that explores the story of the Queen of Sheba. A highly unique hat I think you’d agree. Congrats to the creator of the winning entry Lina Al-Amoudi, Lina receives kudos from fashionistas and a £10k bursary (whistles) to launch her creative career.

A touring exhibition kicks off in London this weekend at the Shoreditch Underground, Pedley Street. Check the dedicated website for further deets.

With a growing rep for tailored Varsity and MB Biker pieces, the new off the peg collection extends their vision for sophisticated streetwear with a British bent and features collaborations with similar minded labels including Danish label, Soulland. Peep the House of Billiam website for further info into what’s going on.

SUPREMEBEING – FAIR ISLE INVADERS DROP

Supreme Fair Isle clothing

Lots of interesting stuff going down at Supremebeing this autumn. The new Fair Isle Invaders designs merge traditional Scandinavian styles, Space Invaders and street-wear finishing. Nice knits. Also the competitions and the images from the White Canvas Project are also worth a look.

PALACE SKATEBOARDERS VIDEO FEATURING LEV TANJU

Following on from the Supreme news, here’s something about a skating team/label a bit closer to home. Drawing on a coterie of skaters and design talent Palace Skateboards have been an emergent presence in London for the past few years. They’ve plucked some of the finest talent about and combined it with a visual brand that gets noticed – riffing the likes of the Coco Chanel and Versace logos’ and psychology diagrams has made for some excellent tees.  This video, commissioned by VICE and ASOS, profiles key man Lev Tanju who talks about the Palace philosophy, his love of VHS and future plans.

BEAMS ADVERTISING

Tres Bien Shop Beams

Following the Stussy thread and riding the wave of the surf, love this piece of advertising for Japanese clothing brand Beams. As befitting a brand that doffs a cap to Americana, this piece of artwork has a proper Pacific ocean vibe – clear skies and a clear blue ocean – and appropriates (rather than bites) American artist Ed Ruscha’s style very nicely (I’m presuming he wasn’t commissioned by the label to paint it himself).

STUSSY MAKE BEATS T-SHIRTS

Stussy Make Beats t-shirt

Love this range of t-shirts released by Stussy in conjunction with the Make Beats competition they’re currently running. Combining a really simple set of slogan’s with Stussy’s iconic typography equals a win in my book.

From it’s birth in the sea of surf culture to it’s adoption by streetwear enthusiasts to it’s present guise, Stussy have an approach that has been much admired and copied but rarely bettered. It’s enduring appeal is summed up by these ‘videos’(in the truest sense of the world) filmed in the 80s that demonstrates that Stussy was not just about threads but a way of life (Livin’ Extra Large). Shawn Stussy might have stepped down from the label that he gave his name to but he’s still going strong with his new S Double label and blog.
