Bonafide is produced by people who care. It’s crafted outside of our 9-5s as something that we’d like to read and know there are a loads of people out there who like it too. Our aim is simple; provide original coverage on where hip-hop has been, is at and where it’s heading. Eelus kindly helped with some visual candy for issue 01 of Bonafide and it’s great to see that his first solo show has just opened. Running from the 25th February to the 6th of March, The Colour Out of Space demonstrates how much he has grown in confidence and matured as an artist. The Vauxhall Beatbox Championships are back, offering you the chance to win a brand new Vauxhall Corsa SXi. Beatboxer, to give the car urban bumps, presumably not included as part of the soundsystem.
Beatboxing is blossoming at the moment – something we explored in issue 03 with an exclusive interview Shlomo – and is hotbed of imaginative talent.

With the snow hopefully gone for another year we can look to throw out the thermals and winter boots and get on with some new kicks for 2010. One of the most inspired releases in some time sees Adidas resume its Star Wars project with a whole bunch of new footwear and apparel collaborations. The most interesting are the classic white and black Stormtrooper Superstars as well as the Darth Vader version of the classic shoe. If rocking the darkside isn’t your thing then there are other personalised efforts for Yoda, Skywalker and the gold bikini’d Princess Leia. The Annie Mac Five Minute Mini-Mix is a great introduction to his jaunty Sheffield soundsystem and deserves to be played loud! Also worth checking is the video for the brilliant ‘Fill Up Mi Portion‘ that archly references both Little Shop of Horrors and Pac Man and the great promotional photography art directed by fellow Steel City creatives Peter and Paul.

We’ve spent the past week tracking down Major Lazer for an exclusive interview for Bonafide magazine issue 03. We chatted zombies, the A-Team and hot ghals.
The Major has quite a commercial mind and does a mean line in 80s revivalist chic t-shirts. Unfortunately this piece of kit is long gone, however, a quick exploration of the Mad Decent site informs us that remixed versions of the tee will be soon be available here.
