PIC+MIX EXHIBITION; CHU AND DISCO TECK

chu_flyer

Still on the contemporary art and design tip, Intercity and Studio55(DSL) are currently organising a series of exhibitions entitled Pic + Mix. The concept revolves around collaboration with an artist hooking up a talent of their own choice with the idea of creating some artistic juxtaposition. The second show kicks off this Thursday, where graff veteran Chu is sharing his pencil case with street artist and illustrator Disco Teck. The duo have decked the walls of Studio55 with a full on installation piece. Check their website for further details.

HOME GROWN EXHIBITION @ URBIS

home_grown_interview

We recently caught up with Andy Brydon, who in collaboration with writer James McNally and Kid Acne, has curated the forthcoming Home Grown: The Story of UK Hip-Hop exhibition at Urbis. An ambitious and unique attempt to capture the development of hip-hop as a UK sub-culture, the show is broken down into seven sections and covers rap, deejaying, graffiti and breakdancing.

In the midst of the build and deadlines, Bonafide decided to increase Andy’s workload and ask a few questions. …Read More.

PICTURES ON WALLS ‘THE FIESTA RESISTANCE’ EXHIBITION

fiesta_flyer

Rock and roll print house Pictures on Walls have announced the dates for their annual Christmas event. Wittingly entitled The Fiesta Resistance two things are for sure; a) that it will be a killer art extravaganza (or bun fight depending on how you approach it) with some familiar and un-familiar names contributing; b) true to form details of the event will be vague until the last possible moment.

For anyone wanting to go the first stumbling block is where the hell is it going to be held? The flyer says Mexico City (or does it?) but then there is this link knocking around. The only thing to do at the minute is to sit tight, keep looking for updates and start looking for a spare credit card.

K-GUY PRINTS

k_moss

Following on from our recent news items on Mutate Britain, we got a mail today that fleshed out the post on K-Guy that we put up. The e-mail included pictures of these special editions. With a background spray done in neon colourways this is some seriously cool handiwork. Available at the Mutate Britain One Foot in the Grove show or via Jo Dunne at jo@itsjo.co.uk.

K-GUY @ MUTATE BRITAIN’S ‘ONE FOOT IN THE GROVE’

coke_moss

Speak of the devil and she appears… as soon as we had we posted up about Mutate Britain’s new show we got an e-mail from K-Guy about the piece he has created for the exhibition. Kate Moss has been done by quite a few people and in many different ways, artists and otherwise, and this portrait of her iconic image is built up using crushed Coke cans. We’ll leave you to join the obvious dots. Nice stuff.

SLINKACHU AT FAME FESTIVAL

slinkachu

Miniature people have been in vogue in advertising and illustration for the past few years but original trailblazer Slinkachu is still well ahead of the pack; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery they say. As part of the Fame Festival, he’s recently been decorating Italian streets with his little pieces of street-art magic.

What is great about Slinkachu is his ability to recreate everyday scenarios with his tiny hand-painted, train-set people and inject such a real quality into the scene; the pieces pull you in and touch you with their hope, poignancy, love and melancholy. Like the size of the actors and actresses he works with, he has a delicate and light touch.

REPPIN’ SOUTH AND WEST YORKSHIRE!

kid_acne_pauls_boutique

“That’s Paul’s Boutique and they’re in Brooklyn…” Sheffield’s Kid Acne was recently invited to take part in Beck’s Music Inspired Art project. The South Yorkshire illustrator/MC/one-man hip-hop band remixed the Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique album cover and there are lots of deft and imaginative touches in the reinterpretation. Other commissioned work includes pieces by super nice designers Kate Moross and Si Scott. Scott is part of the excellent Paper Scissors Stone team – anyone in Leeds needs to check this shop out.

On the South Yorkshire art and design tip, Kid Acne is also taking part in 7 Styles for 7 Brothers exhibition at the Archipelago Works in Sheffield. Running until the 27th September, the show looks proper boss.
