DELTA SUBDUCTION ZONES EXHIBITION @ MUZIEKGEBOUW CONCERT HALL, AMSTERDAM

Delta Subduction Zones Exhibition Amsterdam

Dutch artist Delta (aka Boris Tellegen) has been producing recognizable work for over two decades and it still has the power to knock your socks off. Combining an appreciation of engineering and industrial design – Tellegen’s academic background is rooted in these subjects – with a love of art, Delta’s work is a Rubik’s Cube of Escher, graffiti and modern architecture sketches. In theory it sounds like a fantastic chaotic mess but in practice, time and time again he has delivered coherent, mind-blowing and thoroughly distinctive art.

For anyone visiting Amsterdam this spring and want to do something other than get lifted, head to the Muziekgebouw Concert Hall and check out Delta’s new mixed media work – and judging by the pictures these pieces are huge – that feature in his Subduction Zones exhibition. For those who can’t make it but would like a bit in their life check out the Elms Lester for books and prints etc.

VISIT DELS’ GOB SHOP

DELS is fast becoming our favourite new rapper, nice mic skills, with impressively diverse production collabs (stream TVOTR’s Dave Sitek dreamy remix below), an eye for design and he’s also a gooner, too. …Read More.

PAUL WHITE PAINTINGS AT METRO GALLERY

Paul-White-Paintings-Art-Metro-Gallery

Paul White’s paintings of broken cars and graffed up trucks caught my eye recently. Technically these pieces are superb but it’s the composition and subtle details that really make these aging automobile bangers into great pieces of art.

More of Paul’s work can be seen in the flesh at his Auto Abandon show at Melbourne’s Metro Gallery and – for those not in Oz – at his website.

TREVOR JACKSON NOWHERE EXHIBITION @ KK OUTLET

Trevor Jackson Playgroup

Trevor Jackson has a new solo show entitled Nowhere coming up at London’s KK Outlet.

Jackson is a true ‘headz, head’ and has the talent and ability not only to produce timeless work, but also straddle moving pictures, graphic design and audio production with equal aplomb. For a man who has produced visual slickness for Eric B & Rakim, The Rapture and Output Records, and a multitude of dope music releases under various guises including Playgroup and The Underdog, Nowhere should be a very interesting show. We reckon anyone even slightly curious about the work of an established UK innovator who has helped shaped todays street aesthetic should check this out.

Nowhere features a series of photographic and video works and will run from March 4-26.

JOSE PARLA – WALLS, DIARIES AND PAINTINGS EXHIBITION @ BRYCE WOLKOWITZ

Jose Parla Walls Diaries and Paintings

jose-parla-walls-diaries-and-paintings image 2

Jose Parla continues to channel graffiti, the spirit of Pollock and Twombly, and combine it with his own personal experiences and unique style to bring work into the world of fine art that in years to come could see him referred to an ‘old-school master’. An expert exponent of hand-styles and innovative user of mixed media, Parla’s new show Walls, Diaries, and Paintings features new paintings chronicling his experiences of urban life and the cities concrete culture.

The exhibition runs from March to April at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, NYC, and for those that can’t make it (including myself!) there is an accompanying monograph available here. As the promo shots indicate Parla is a unique talent and, in terms of being able to understand, reflect and express the rhythms and spaces of urban life, he is making a sustained play to be this era’s Mondrain.

DAN MEDHURST PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION – EAST OF MY YOUTH AND WEST OF MY FUTURE

Dan Medhurst photography exhibition

Dan Medhurst, Bonafide go to photographer and all round top guy, is holding his first solo exhibition at the City Arts and Music Project this February.

East of My Youth and the West of My Future features images shot during a six month trip that began in the Far East and ended in America’s West Coast. The exhibition takes its’ title from a line from Jack Kerouac’s legendary beat novel On the Road, and documents Dan’s journey along off-beat tracks and forgotten spots and his meetings with eccentric characters. And in keeping with the old-school adventure feel, Dan documents his experiences using an old Nikon 35mm SLR.

The exhibition starts on the 3rd February (and runs until the 2nd March) and the opening night features another Bonafide favourite in the Kidkanevil, who will be creating magic on the ones-and-twos. A show that should wow both visually and aurally, if you are about checkit out.

SLINKACHU: CONCRETE OCEAN EXHIBITION AT ANDIPA GALLERY

Slinkachu Concrete Ocean exhibition at Andipa Gallery

Concrete Ocean is a new upcoming exhibition by Slinkachu.

Running for a month at Andipa Gallery (3 March – 2 April 2011) the show is set to demonstrate Slinkachu’s evolving production techniques, with his little folk marooned in aquatic locations within the urban environment. Based on the promo shot for the exhibition (the piece is entitled The Last Resort) I’m thinking Desert Island Discs sans seagulls, sand and ice cream but with lots and lots of pigeons, concrete and subtle jokes.

Having interviewed Slinkachu for Bonafide last year (check out issue 04 for the exclusive scoop) I can vouch that he is one of the most interesting, amiable and imaginative artists I’ve encountered to date. If you are in London during March make a beeline for what promises to be an exciting show.

BEAUTIFUL LOSERS FILM @ BABELGUM

beautiful-losers-film-exhibition

The film version of Beautiful Losers can now be watched online at babelgum. An inspiration for the burgeoning street art scene, the film version is a companion piece for the exhibition of the same name that documented many of the scenes trailblazers. Directed by Aaron Rose, and with an OG score Money Mark, Beautiful Losers features street luminaries such as Shepard Fairey, Margaret Kilgallen, Geoff McFetridge, Barry McGee, Mike Mills and Stephen Powers.

Having been lucky enough to visit the Beautiful Losers exhibition in Milan in 2006 I can safely say that Beautiful Losers is one of most dynamic, exciting and jaw-droppingly good documentations of counter culture art that I’ve ever seen.

EXHIBITION NEWS IN LEEDS; PURE EVIL @ PAPER SCISSOR STONE AND BEST JOINED UP @ BIRD’S YARD

Pure Evil Bunny fingers print UK street artists

UK street art and illustration are being represented in force in Leeds this Christmas.

Pure Evil (a thoroughly friendly chap who once sold me a raffle ticket) is bringing his anarchic artistic chic to creative emporium Paper Scissor Stone. The exhibition starts 9 December.

Also in Leeds’ city centre, Best Joined Up is hooking up with Bird’s Yard to produce Anti Claus on 18 December, to bring a day of live art, tasteful vinyl wrecking, hot mulled wine and ideal Christmas presents.
