Since it’s inception Spine Magazine’s TV.net incarnation has delivered some innovative features. Personal favourite’s would be the Mystro Investigates series (big love for the Bonafide Beats installment too) and Life Drawing on the Tinternet (porn for arts sake some may say but I couldn’t possibly comment). Anyhow the project that is really lush on the ears is the recently launched podcast series. Episode two see’s the team speak with Stone Throw’s very own rising star Aloe Blacc. It is a rare treat indeed.

Chromeo
Business Casual
Backyard Recordings
Listening to Chromeo’s third and newest album sound very much like, well like a Chromeo album. Following up the success of 2007’s Fancy Footwork the duo have decided not to venture off on a new tangent, instead mining the falsetto disco funk that made their last album such an essential release. …Read More.

It’s no secret that Dutch graffic (sic.) designer Sander van Heukelom has long been a proponent of graffiti and graffiti culture. His design of a giant aerosol fat cap chair, having originally been presented as part of an exhibition some 2 years ago, is now available to buy direct. If you’re into this kinda ish then may we suggest you peep the original site’s samples page too for some pretty colours. There’s also a video detailing the manufacturing process.

Fashion editor Jade was at large last week getting the skinny on the line of Run DMC trainersd developed for Footlocker.
“Imagine this, you turn up at a swanky venue in central London and come face-to-face with waiter’s dressed head-to-toe in Rev Run’s new line. The livery is inspired by Rev’s experiences in NYC in the 80s and includes classically styled sneakers and tees emblazoned with ‘Words of Wisdom’ quotes. Whilst listening to the likes of Westwood and Ronson bang out hip-hop classics I managed to fondle some of these new kicks.”
Jade’s fashion verdict: these trainers are ultra sleek, more mature and sophisticated than the average shoe. They are the kind of thing that could be worn day or night and still be fresh!
So there you have it.

After listening to some snippets of the futuristic soundscapes featured on EL-P’s new album Weareallgoingtoburninhell Megamixxx3, I can’t help but feel like Deckard about to interview a replicant. My apparatus is set out on the table. My phone is resting on my trusty old pen and pad and alongside it, my laptop, which is poised ready to record the call I’m about to make, like it was the Bladerunner’s Voight-Kampff test. I dial his number on my mobile, then set it to speaker phone with a bleep, which triggers of the software’s sound wave. It’s followed by a flat hiss…then the sound wave leaps to life as the phone rings…

Faile have recently published Faile Prints and Originals Studio Edition, a book that documents the prints and originals produced by the collective between 1999 and 2009.
Faile are one of the most innovative and influential crews out there and I love the way their work manages to sample mad B-Movie plot ideas and remixe comic book visuals whilst doffing a cap to the likes of Litchenstein.

Taschen’s Jazz Covers illuminated jazz’s love affair with laidback cool and originality. It traced the rich visual history of the covers that housed some of the most and least well known releases within the genre. Crafted to appeal to designers and music lovers alike, Jazz Covers was not some coffee table fodder but a resource to savour and gawp at. Following on from this, Funk & Soul attempts to do the same for the soul train generation. A release well worth keeping an eye out for.
On the Taschen tip, also check out Alex Steinweiss: The Inventor of the Modern Album Cover. A wonderful tribute to the highly respected Mr Steinwiess, a true design innovator.
